Nothing is ever wasted, it's always stored

As we enter our week, let’s think about the concept that “nothing is ever wasted, it is always stored.” Several meetings I have a month are with brand new VO artist, and the first thing they’ll talk about is how they are starting from scratch. This is furthest from the truth. If anything, you have been doing Voice Over longer than anything else you’ve done in life, including walking. Every time you have a conversation with someone, sing a song or read a book out loud, you have been doing Voice Over all long. Don’t let the equipment, study, and agency/demo talks deter you from such a simple introduction into a gift you’ve yet to unwrap.

So you are not starting over - ever. Everything you have done in life has prepared you for this moment and the ones to come. But you have to believe a few things in order for this idea to work in your favor:

1. Forgive yourself for any past situations you are still unsettled with.

2. Fall in love with being a student. Being new. Fresh meat. A sponge.

3. Connect with a community of people doing what you want to do. 

4. Allow the testimonies of others in the same pursuit to put your mind at ease.

5. Seek guidance from honest, supportive, and qualified people.

6. Intentionally find connections between anything you’ve done in the past and how it helps you now.

Here's an example:

One of my dreams was to dance behind Beyonce. Bee hive nation right? But in the midst of pursuing that dream, I taught dance. Now don’t get me wrong, I looooove teaching with all my heart. But creating choreography for the sake of just doing it couldn't bring me as much joy. I just wanted to teach. Well 12 years later, I have helped hundreds of people gain and sustain unconditional confidence in the world because I cut out the middle man (choreo) and began to solely do what fills my soul and is a part of my purpose (teaching). If I had gotten into life coaching or VO as if I was “starting over,” you wouldn’t have gotten this email today.

So remember, nothing you’ve done to date was wasted. It is always stored. Keep it safe - Aurelia
