FOR THE LUV OF BLACK HISTORY

Welcome back and Happy Monday Fam,
I know you didn’t think I’d let this month pass without saying Happy Black History Month to all in celebration, and to share 4 of many top Black Voice Over Artists that have, are, and will continue to kill it in the VO game. In the same way that athletes know, and know well, all about the athletes that came before them, we too should be continuing to study the craft by studying the greats.
I have to set it off with Keith David. He is one of the GOATs when it comes to a unique and powerful presence of a voice, and you can spot it from a mile away. He has been the voice of so many TV/Film productions, video games, and is an accomplished on screen actor. His credits include Goliath in Gargoyles, Dr. Facilier in The Princess and the Frog, and the Arbiter in the Halo video game series.
Ya gotta know Phil Lamarr. I have been a true fan since the MadTV days (hope I’m not aging myself!). He is the animation go-to-guy. His credits include Futurama, Justice League, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Ok ok enough of the fellas for a second. Enter: Cree Summer. You know her even if you don’t know her by name. She has voiced many memorable characters over the years, including Susie Carmichael in Rugrats, Penny in Inspector Gadget, and Foxxy Love in Drawn Together.
And lastly, I have to shout out my Bronx native family and friend (in my mind) Kevin Michael Richardson. His voice is one of the most recognizable in the game. Often playing a villain, his credits include Gantu from Lilo and Stitch, Trigon from Teen Titans, and Skulker in Danny Phantom, the Joker in The Batman (he was nominated twice for Daytime Emmys), and Family Guy
I hope that you hit up google.com and learn more about these artists and how they got to where they are. It’s so easy sometimes to diminish our progress because of the progress of others, but EVERYONE started somewhere. Have a wonderful rest of your Monday and keep doing great work!
Til Next Time, treat every week like it is YOURS because well...it is ✌🏼
