You can only be where your feet are planted

I'd tell you all about the rollercoaster of a life I've had since August 21st, but I don't want your eyes to cross from the extensive details. The over arching revelation I had, however, was that my feet can only be where they are planted.

I am currently the Associate Choreographer, Dance Captain and Swing for a Broadway-Bound musical, and somehow I thought I'd still have time to give VO all that it deserves.

LIES, BUTTERFLIES, AND A SIDE OF CURLY FRIES!

In my attempt to do it all, I burned myself out from both ends. This resulted in constant feelings of stress and anxiousness, lack of appetite, mis-scheduling constantly, and overall feeling like I just cant keep up! So here are a few things I did to get back on track, and hopefully you can keep these in your back pocket if moments like this happen to you.

  1. PRIORITIZATION - I had to take a beat and say what reeeeallly needs to happen right now? As much as I like to pride myself on being a Wonderwoman, I had to stop and recognize that this show came first, my rest second, and all else would be tertiary.

  1. ACCOUNTABILITY - I made sure I talked to my best friends and accountability partners and told them to ensure that I wasn't doing too much and filling up every single moment with work.

  2. DETACHMENT - I put my hands up and stepped away from the phone. From the iPad. From the Computer. And even From the Apple Watch. I had to detach, relax, reflect, and restore.

In full transparency, I haven't done an audition in over 5 weeks. I am blessed to have an Agency that understands (thanks Atlas!), and now that I have the time and mental energy, I'm excited to get back in the game.

So if you find that time for VO is minimal, lean into that. If you find that other goals you desire to achieve by the end of the year need to take a back seat, kick them out the passenger side. You can only be in one place and one time. And that is where your feet are currently planted.
